One of the talented individuals leading these efforts is Fernando Nunez. Fernando joined Goddard as a Project Manager last year, a job that seems destined for him—literally! “Both of my parents are project managers, and I knew I wanted to be one since high school,” shared Fernando. We sat down with him to discuss his journey, lessons learned, and why he believes that Goddard is an exceptional product development partner.
With his career goal in mind from a young age, Fernando chose to pursue his studies at MIT, focusing on engineering to build a strong technical foundation before transitioning into management. “I wanted to work on cool technology and products,” he explained, “So I designed my curriculum to be project-heavy and taking different courses outside the regular mechanical engineering courses, including electronics and computer science.” This thoughtful approach taught him how to work well with others and “be flexible enough in [his] skills and understanding to be whatever was required to get a project to its end goal.”
Those interpersonal skills, honed early in his career, are what Fernando really enjoys. “It’s what I love most about my job,” he said. “Getting to know other people. The reason for this is that you’re always learning something from meeting new people. You could get a new perspective, different sets of passions and motivators, and even potentially gain new skills that you can use on a future project.” Fernando prides himself on always being his team’s biggest cheerleader, even on difficult projects. “I always want us to be proud of the work we’ve done.”
